We wear shin and instep protectors, not just to protect ourselves, but also others. That doesn’t mean sparring is about contact or competition. In fact our teaching emphasises technique rather than application. However, proper protection means that we are prepared and it will help to prevent or minimise the effect of those very rare moments when unplanned or inadvertent contact occurs.
